Vicentia Boco (wey dem born am 22 January 1949) be one big woman from Benin wey she be doctor for X-ray (radiologist), teacher, politician, plus woman rights fighter. She be trained doctor wey teach medical imaging for de University of Abomey-Calavi, wey she sana be de head of radiology for big hospital for Cotonou til she cam retire for 2014. For politics side, she be Minister for Higher Education and Scientific Research between 2007 den 2008, wey later she be president of women promotion institute (INPF) from 2009 go reach 2021.
Early life den education
[edit | edit source]Dem born Boco for Natitingou for Atakora area, dat time e be under French rule (dem dey call am French Dahomey). She grow for Savi, Atlantique Department den ein mommie den ein poppie dem all be teachers. For 1968, she fini secondary school plus bac D in science certificate.[1]
Dat same year, she travel go Belgium go learn medical imaging secof dat time dem no start to dey teach am for Benin. Later she cam go France continue, den she now become full doctor for 1974 from Paris Descartes University. After dat, she still go learn public health from de University of Nancy den Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) from de University of Strasbourg, before she cam back Benin for 1983.[2][3]
Medical career
[edit | edit source]Wen she cam back Benin, she start to dey job as radiographer. From 1998 til 2014, na she still be boss (head) of radiology for de biggest hospital insyd Cotonou.[4]
She no just stop der oo, she sana go dey teach for university too as professor for medical imaging.[5] Secof ein job, ppl start to dey call am de first French-speaking university radiologist for Sub-Saharan Africa.[6]
Boco talk say e dey support abortion for cases wey de pregnancy fit put de woman for physical danger anaa if she no get money take care of de kiddies.[7]
Political career
[edit | edit source]From 1993 to 1996, Boco go job as medical advisor gv Benin government under President Nicéphore Soglo.[8]
Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research (2007-2008)

She even manage ein campaign for 2006 election, wey he win.[9] So insyd 2007, he appoint am as Minister for Higher Education and Scientific Research.[10][11] During ein tenure, Boco notably scrap entrance exams den registration fees give students wey dey attend Beninese universities, wey she promote strengthening de teaching of sciences, as well as improving science facilities insyd de country.[12][13]
Boco sef receive plenty criticism from sam students say she no dey listen to dema demand for free tuition. After she step down from de position for October 2008, Boco talk say she no too happy plus wetin she fit achieve for de role, she mention say she face plenty barriers wen she dey try bring reforms, plus she talk say e be like Boni no really trust am for de position.[14]

Even though Boco get experience as minister, she still keep good relationship plus Boni, wey she go serve as am advisor again for de 2011 presidential election. For 2009, Boni appoint Boco make she be president of de new institute dem create Institut national pour la promotion de la femme (INPF).[15][16]
Boco lead de INFP take prepare reports plus studies about how women for Benin dey live den wetin dem dey go thru, wey later de Ministry of Planning and Foresight use am as guideline.[17] For 2016, Patrice Talon come take over from Boni as president of Benin. Even though Boco still stay for ein position for INPF, later she talk say Talon ein government no dey show much interest for promoting women rights like de previous government[18]
At first, Boco support Boni am promise say 30% of members for de National Assembly go be women. Buh she still call am make he make sure say women dey get leadership roles for every level insyd regional den local politics plus decision-making bodies too.[19] For 2016, Patrice Talon come take over from Boni as president of Benin. Even though Boco still stay for ein position for INPF, later she talk say Talon ein government no dey show much interest for promoting women rights like de previous government.[20]
Boco talk say she no like how women dema role for government drop after de 2019 election, wey only eight women win seats.[21][22] She say de new changes dem do for Benin constitution, wey promise say dem go reserve 24 seats for women insyd de National Assembly, no satisfy am. She point out say dis be only about 22% of all de seats.
She still show worry say secof dis, political parties no go again put women as candidates for de remaining 85 seats, den dis go make am harder for women to plenty insyd politics.[23]
Aside leadership matter, Boco still call make dem give more support to people wey dey suffer domestic abuse. She talk say prison sentence for de people wey dey do de bad thing no really dey help dema partners den kiddies, wey she feel say dem for use better, more complete way take handle de problem.[24]
For 2021, de government wey Talon dey lead come take over INPF, dem change de name to Institut national de la femme. Boco no continue for ein role again.[25]

For 2022, Boco criticize de twenty-year prison wey dem give opposition politician Reckya Madougou, she warn government make dem no use ein sentence take scare people wey wan talk dema mind.[28]
