De Copperbelt University be public university dem establish thru the Act of Parliament No. 19 of 1987. Prior to 1987, de university exist as campus of de University of Zambia Federal System plus two schools; namely: School of Business den Industrial Studies (SBIS) den School of Environmental Studies (SES). Na dem refer de campus as de University of Zambia for Ndola (UNZANDO) til 1 December 1987. As of 1 January 1989 dem incorporate de Zambia Institute of Technology (ZIT) into de Copperbelt University make e form de School of Technology. Since 1987, de university significantly grow from two faculties per go ten by de end of 2013. Na de total number of students insyd 2017 be 11,900 wey dem get over 54,000 students insyd de past 25 years. For ein first graduation ceremony insyd 1992, de university get only 100 students wey dey graduate from de various disciplines buh dey graduate average of 1,500 as at 2017.

Insyd 2014, de School of Medicine receive US$1 million for donation from de Council of Zambian Jewry of de African Jewish Congress den de World Jewish Congress.[5]
