Career
[edit | edit source]Andry dey work insyd New Orleans, as well as at Xavier University insyd Ohio.[citation needed] She uses color-reduction wood cut prints insyd small ein large-scale prints. Some of ein prints are almost five feet long in order to expose de view to degrading clichés. Andry's works never contain a specific person, but more of an ideal of certain groups of people.[4] Her work be feature insyd multiple publications such as, New American Paintings, edition 118, Art in Print, den The Saratoga Collection.[5][6]
Andry's work explores de negative effects stereotypes have on people of color.[citation needed] She dey know for ein large-scale, full-color woodblock prints. Ein works feature white subjects insyd blackface, depicting negative cliches den caricatures of black culture. Through these depictions, Andry explores how stereotypes dey perpetuate to benefit a majority while disenfranchising oda groups of people.[7][8] Andry challenges de majority social norms ein questions how these norms affect how individuals see one another. She san uses non-people-of-color insyd her work to portray more dan black culture. However, wen Andry's works are seen as black culture, de stereotype-norms dey emphasize. She typically uses white men to symbolize authority over people of color stereotypes.[9] Andry shows dis visually insyd ein work by practicing large-scale color reduction insyd woodcut prints.[1]
