De Mountains of the Moon University (MMU), be public university insyd Uganda. De university det locate approximately 1 kilometre (0.62 mi), northeast of de central business district of de city of Fort Portal, Kabarole District, insyd Western Uganda, approximately 294 kilometres (183 mi), by road, west of Kampala, Uganda ein capital city.[2] Dis location dey lie insyd de Kibundaire neighborhood, to de north of de Fort Portal-Mubende Road, immediately after de bridge, as you dey leave Fort Portal. De coordinates of de university campus be: 0°39'33.0"N, 30°16'31.0"E (Latitude:0.659167; Longitude:30.275278).[3] New campus dey under construction for Lake Saaka, approximately 8 kilometres (5.0 mi), northwest of Fort Portal, along Saaka Road. After long planning phase, de Mountains of the Moon University receive de official license make e cam turn active as University for March 29, 2005. Na dem grant se License by de Uganda National Council for Higher Education.[5] MMU be Community Trust University wey ebe non profit organization. De trustees dey include de Local District Councils, de three main religious bodies den supportive den individuals wey be interested. E get no specific affiliations.

Insyd January 2018, de presido of Uganda direct say make dem include both Busoga University den MMU for de list of public universities top effective insyd de 2018/2019 academic year.[1] For 1 June 2018, na dem grant de university de university charter by de Uganda National Council for Higher Education (UNCHE).[6] Consequently, dem set up Transition Task Force (TTF) up by de Uganda Ministry of Education den Sports. De TTF dey consist of experts wey dey include Professor John Massa Kasenene, Professor Pius Coxwell Achanga, Dr. Edmond Kagambe den Ms. Grace Nyakahuma. Na dem assign dese make e coordinate programs den activities to facilitate smooth transition of de university go public institution.[7]

Overview[edit | edit source]

Na dem establish MMU as service give de rural communities of Uganda. Dem structure courses make e develop analytical den applied skills. All students dey undertake field work dem assess during de 'recess term' wich dem dey present dey use computer base technology for de start of de next semester. All students plete three hours of hands-on computer studies every week. Dem fi take majority of courses as either Weekend anaa Evening option. Dis dem design make e allow students make dem work den help bia dema way thru dema courses. Na de Austrian Service Abroad be active for de MMU since 2007.

De university establish Centre for African Developmental Studies, make dem study, research den create African knowledge den understanding, den suggest how dem go fi apply dis make e inform development insyd African context. MMU ein ‘special approach’ go permit fresh ideas wey go effectively bridge between local cultures den broader developmental opportunities make dem try den test am, fresh development models make dem synthesize den development competences make dem dey identify den understand for holistic framework insyd. As well as dem dey integrate dese ideas plus current courses, de centre establish Masters programme, wey dey undertake research den dey establish Cultural den Historical Archive. All dese areas of activity get strong potential for partnership between MMU den universities overseas.

Der be multiple study programmes dem dey offer wich generally dey include certificate, diploma den degree options. Dem organise de academic courses on offer under de Schools wey dey follow:[8]

  • Directorate of Post Graduate Studies den Research

Public university[edit | edit source]

Insyd September 2021, Parliament approve de takeover of de Mountains of the Moon University by de government. De university commence full operations as public university for 1 July 2022. For de time of make e cam turn public university, MMU get 265 staff positions dem approve (academic, administrative den support). Of dese dem fill 170 positions (64 percent) wey dem unfill 95 positions (36 percent), primarily due to lack of suitable applicants. For dat time, na dem register total of 2,450 students, 150 of dem for government scholarships top.[9]
