De Multimedia University of Kenya (MMU) be public university wey dey locate insyd Nairobi. De university dey offer IT & related courses , Mass media, Business, Engineering, Physical Sciences (Physics den Chemistry) den Social sciences education.

  • De main campus dey locate near de western side of de Nairobi National Park for Magadi Road top insyd Nairobi. E get telecommunications museum den several residential halls.[1]
  • De second campus dey locate insyd de Nairobi Central Business District, insyd Uniafric House for Loita Street top.[2]

History

Na dem found MMU insyd 1948 wen na dem found de institution as Central Training School make e serve as East African Post Training School before dem change go Kenya Posts and Telecommunications Corporation (KPTC).[3][4] Na dis be after de collapse of de East African community insyd 1977. Insyd 1992, na dem upgrade de college go Kenya College of Communications Technology under KPTC den later (1999) e cam turn subsidiary of Telkom Kenya Ltd (TKL), after KPTC split go Postal Corporation of Kenya, Telkom Kenya Ltd den Communications Commission of Kenya (CCK).[5] De college cam turn subsidiary of CCK after de privatization of TKL insyd 2006. Insyd 2008, na dem upgrade am under Legal Notice No. 155 of 2008 to Multimedia University College of Kenya as constituent college of Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology.[6]

Award of charter

After dem conduct inspection by de Commission for University Education, body dem set aside by de Kenyan government make e oversee de quality of higher education insyd de country,[7] de immediate former presido, Hon. Mwai Kibaki, grant university charter to de college, thereby dem give am university status for March 1, 2013.[5] From then, dem cam know de institution as de Multimedia University of Kenya.

Academics

MMU courses dey include certificate, diploma, bachelor's degree den master's degree courses. Thru ein centre for further Education, de university dey offer short courses wey aim for make dem dey complement de academic programmes dem dey offer den offer students extra training.

De MMU academic calendar dey operate for two semesters top wey dey run from January to April den September to December.

Library

De collection dey cover all programmes offer by de university, dat be, Media den Communication, Engineering, ICT den Business programmes. De library dey conduct training for how make dem access de e-resources insyd de e-resources centre wey dey locate within de library. De MMU library dey contain four sections: circulation services, technical services, collection development den e-resources centre.

ICT Museum

MMU get ICT museum. De ICT museum dey locate insyd de main campus along Magadi road, wey ebe open to de general public as well. Ebe actually de largest ICT museum insyd East den Central Africa.

Vision 2030 Kenya

MMU dey cam involve insyd de development Konza Technology City.[15] MMU Kenya adopte similar strategy as MMU Malaysia for wich MMU Kenya go accelerate de development of Kenya's Information den Knowledge sectors.[8] Dis be one of de pillars dem mean make e transform Kenya to middle income economy under Vision 2030.

Recognition

Insyd 2012, na dem recognize MMU as de top ranking public university insyd Kenya for ICT excellence insyd. E sanso be de training centre for de SAP Skills for Africa Program whose main purpose be make dem train African university graduates for software engineering insyd.[16]
