Uganda Martyrs University (UMU) be private varsity affiliate plus de Roman Catholic Church insyd Uganda. De Episcopal Conference of de Catholic Bishops of Uganda wey dey own de varsity.[1] De Uganda National Council for Higher Education wey license am.[2] UMU dey consist of seven Faculties, two Institute, six Campuses, nine Departments, den three schools. As of March 2022, total student enrollment be 4,632.[3] Of dese, na about 1,500 students be residential, while na nearly 3,000 students dem enroll for UMU ein distance learning programs insyd. De number of staff members be ova 400.[4]
Location

History
[edit | edit source]Dem establish UMU insyd October 1993 plus 84 students den two academic departments: de Institute of Ethics & Development Studies den de Faculty of Business Administration & Management.[7]
At de varsity ein 24th graduation ceremony for 8 November 2018, 2040 candidates graduate plus certificates, diploma, bachelors, masters den doctoral degrees. De vice chancellor inform those present say dem introduce 17 fresh courses, wey dey include de Bachelor of Journalism den Bachelor of Inclusive Education, wey dey bring de total number of courses dem dey offer to 136. Na dem sanso declare fresh Faculty of Engineering at de campus insyd Fort Portal, wey dey Western Uganda, open.[8]
Campuses
[edit | edit source]As of November 2018, UMU maintain campuses at de locations wey dey follow:
- Main Campus: At Nkozi, about 82 kilometres (51 mi) south-west of Kampala, for de highway between Kampala den Masaka top.[5] Dis campus get halls of residence wey dey include Onyango, Haflet, Carabine, Mukasa den odas.
- Masaka Campus: insyd Masaka City, about 119 kilometres (74 mi) by road south-west of Kampala. E start insyd 2005 as coordinating centre give UMU distance learning programmes but dem turn am go campus for 2007 insyd.[9]
- Lubaga Campus: At Lubaga, insyd Lubaga Division, within de city limits of Kampala for 3 acres (1.2 ha) of land top. Dis campus dey house de School of Diplomacy.[10]
- Nsambya Campus: For de grounds of St. Francis Hospital Nsambya top, for Nsambya Hill top insyd Makindye Division wey dey southern Kampala. Dis campus dey house de Uganda Martyrs University School of Medicine wich, insyd 2010, dem start dey offer de Master of Medicine degree in general surgery, obstetrics & gynecology, internal medicine, den pediatrics.[11]
- Kabale Campus: insyd de south-western Ugandan city of Kabale.
- Moyo Campus: insyd de town of Moyo wey dey de Northern Region insyd, close to de border plus South Sudan.
- Mbale Campus: insyd de city of Mbale, insyd de Eastern Region, at de foothills of Mount Elgon.[10]
- Mbarara Campus:[12] dey locate for Nyamitanga Hill insyd, wey dey de city of Mbarara insyd, insyd de Western Region of Uganda, approximately 270 kilometres (170 mi) by road, west of Kampala.[13]
- Lira Campus: insyd de city of Lira insyd de Northern Region, approximately 320 kilometres (200 mi), by road, north of Kampala.[14]
- Kabarole Campus: insyd de city of Fort Portal, insyd de Western Region of Uganda, approximately 300 kilometres (186 mi), by road, west of Kampala.[15] E dey house de Faculty of Engineering.[8]
