Umaru Musa Yar’Adua University (UMYU), formerly Katsina State University, na dem establish am by de Katsina State Government insyd 2006, make e "serve as nucleus give socio-economic, technological den political development of de State by make edey produce highly skilled human resource thru conventional face-to-face den distance learning modes."[1] Umaru Musa Yar'adua, then de executive governor of Katsina State wey later de presio of de Federal Republic of Nigeria, begin de work of creating de varsity before ein death for 2010 insyd.
Dem pass de law wey dey establish de Katsina State University by de Katsina State House of Assembly for 5 September 2006, den de varsity commence academic activities insyd January 2007 plus three faculties (Education, Humanities, den Natural den Applied Sciences), den 16 undergraduate programmes. De State House of Assembly pass law wey change de name of de varsity make e honor Umaru Musa Yar'adua for 8 April 2009.[1]
Dem divide de first 25 years of de varsity ein existence into four phases—three phases of 5 years each, follow by 10-year phase. For each phase insyd, de varsity go add faculties, departments, den academic programmes, til e get total of 13 faculties, 76 departments den 236 academic programmes (undergraduate den postgraduate).[2]
De Visitor of de varsity be de governor of de state wey dey serve (currently Aminu Bello Masari); de Chancellor be Nigeria ein one-time Minister of Economic Development, Dr. Umaru Mutallab;[3] den de current Vice Chancellor (as of 2021) be Professor Sanusi Mamman.[4]
