Dem fi track de beginnings of UNZA back to before de Second World War wen de idea na dem conceive make dem establish University insyd Northern Rhodesia. However, na dem halt de plans wen de war break out wey dem only revive am after. De colonial government institute plans make e set up Central African University College, for Africa, due to de development of higher education institutions for chaw parts of Africa.

De Central Africa council (CAC) appoint committee make dem investigate requirements for college for higher education den, e subsequently recommend say nake de establish college for higher education. Na dem conduct subsequent investigation into de need for higher education give Africans insyd Central Africa by Sir Alexander Carr-Saunders insyd 1952, plus follow-up report dem submit insyd March 1953. De Southern Rhodesia Government accept de establishment of multi-racial University College den de commission consequently recommend say make dem establish institution for Salisbury insyd. However, minority report Alexander Kerr wrep, provide counter argument wey dey suggest say de establishment of higher education institution for de basis of equality between races na e no be feasible den thus recommend say make dem establish university give non-Europeans for Lusaka insyd.

Na dem put in place Provisional Council of de University of Zambia after enactment of de University of Zambia Act, 1965. Insyd July 1965, na dem appoint Douglas G. Anglin Vice Chancellor den, insyd October 1965, Presido Kenneth David Kaunda give de assent of Act no 66 of de 1965 act.[2]
