Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU) be federal varsity of technology wey dey locate insyd Bauchi, north eastern part of Nigeria. Dem name de varsity after de first den only Prime Minister of de Federal Republic of Nigeria, Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa. Dem admit de institution ein first students for October 1981 insyd for pre-degree den remedial programmes while de degree courses of de School of Science den Science Education begin for October 1982 insyd. For 1 October 1984, dem merge de varsity plus Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Nigeria plus change of name go Abubakar Tafawa Balewa College, Ahmadu Bello University, Bauchi campus. De varsity regain ein autonomous status insyd 1988 dey follow general demerger of such institutions. Na dis follow de change of name go Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi.

Dem formulate de academic pattern of de varsity for 1980 insyd after consultation plus subject experts from Nigeria, United Kingdom den United States of America. Dem apply for nature de curriculum wey dem adopt, as dem suit technologically based institution, wey na dem maintain dis theme for all de units of de varsity insyd.

De varsity dey offer degrees thru seven schools: de School of Engineering, Science, Environmental Technology, Agriculture, Management Technology, de School of Technology Education den College of Medical Sciences. Edey offer entry level bachelor's degrees den both Masters den Doctorate degrees. Dean/Provost dey head each school's wey dey report directly to de Vice Chancellor. De Vice Chancellor be de executive head of de varsity. De Federal Ministry of Education dey appoint de Vice Chancellor for recommendation by de Governing Council of de varsity.
