Na dem create Bahir Dar University from de merger of two former higher institutions. Na de first be Bahir Dar Polytechnic Institute, wich dem form one of de faculties of de University, na dem establish am insyd 1963 under de technical cooperation between de Government of USSR den de Imperial Government of Ethiopia.[2] De objective of de institute be make e train skilled technicians insyd de fields of Agro-Mechanics, Industrial Chemistry den Metal, Textile, Electrical den Wood Technologies. De Institute undergo number of program changes within de area of technology til de commencement of de Engineering degree program 1996. Thru out dese program changes, de institute do all wat e fi do make e supply de labor market plus de best technicians wey na dem now dey run am most of de businesses insyd de industrial, educational, agricultural den oda sectors.[2]

Na de oda institution of higher learning be Bahir Dar Teachers College, wich dem establish am more dan three decades ago. Na ein original name be de Academy of Pedagogy, wey na dem create am insyd 1972 by de tripartite agreement of de Imperial Government, UNESCO, den UNDP wey dem start actual work insyd de year wey dey follow under de auspices of de Ministry of Education den Fine Arts. Ein general objective be make e train multi-purpose primary education professionals capable of make dem dey adopt primary education to rural life den rural development. Ein specific objectives be make dem train primary school teacher trainers, supervisors, educational leaders, adult education organizers den community development agents.
