However for 6 February 2012 insyd (effectively 28 June 2012), dem split off de southern part of de district wey dem create de Denkyembour District; dat be say dem rename de remaining part as Kwaebibirem District, wey dem elevate am go municipal district assembly status for 15 March 2018 insyd wey ecam turn Kwaebibirem Municipal District. De district assembly dey de southern part of Eastern Region wey Akwatia be ein capital town.^[4]
