Leonce Raphael Agbodjelou (dem born am insyd 1965), be a Beninese photographer.

Biography

Dem born Leonce Raphael Agbodjelou insyd Porto-Novo insyd 1965.[citation needed] He be de son of Benin photographer Joseph Moise Agbodjelou (1912–2000).[citation needed] He does not have a formal education den be train by ein father.[citation needed] They travel together plus portable studio. They use a traditional colorful fabrics as a background for de people portraits wey dem make. Leonce Agbodjelou found de first Photography School insyd Benin.[1] He serves as de President of de Photographer's Association of Porto-Novo.[2]

Agbodjelou's portraiture series, Citizens of Porto-Novo depicts people of Benin's capital. He be using a daylight studio den a medium format film camera for de project. Ein 'Musclemen' shows staged studio photograph of muscular men, wich be popular theme insyd de West Africa.[3] De 'Egungun' project are photographs of de masqueraders, depicting divine ancestors of Yoruba-speaking people. They usually appear at funerals to guide deceased to de spirit world. They san fi appear at any time to protect people from misfortunes.[4]
