De Tripartite Free Trade Area (TFTA) be sam propose African free trade agreement between de Common Market for Eastern den Southern Africa (COMESA), Southern African Development Community (SADC) den East African Community (EAC).[1] De 29 tripartite member/partner countries represent dey 53% of de African Union ein membership, more dan 60% of continental GDP ($1.88 trillion), den a combined population of 800 million.[2]
Negotiations between de three trade blocs first begin insyd June 2011.[1] For June 10, 2015, na dem sign a deal insyd Egypt, wey dey pend ratification by de countries wey dey participate.[3]
Na dem meet de agreement de TFTA enter into force for July 25, 2024, after de requirement of 14 countries wey dey ratify.[2][4] De 14 countries wey now dey trade under de TFTA be Angola, Botswana, Burundi, Egypt, Eswatini, Kenya, Lesotho, Malawi, Namibia, Rwanda, South Africa, Uganda, Zambia den Zimbabwe, wey dey account for 75% of tripartite GDP insyd 2022. Djibouti sanso dey ratify de agreement.[2]
Dem dey intend make de TFTA cam turn part of de African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), wich na dem kickstart insyd 2015 for de 25th African Union Summit insyd Johannesburg, South Africa wey e for include all 54 African Union states as members of de free trade area.[5]
