Vida Akoto Banfo (dem born am 7 February 1949) be Ghanaian Justice give de Supreme Court of Ghana.[1] Na she serve for de Supreme Court bench from 2009 to 2019.[2]
Ein Early life den Education
[edit | edit source]Dem born am for Pokuase wey dey Greater Accra Region, for 7 February 1949 insyd. Ein parents be Alfred Kingsley Bannerman-Williams den Grace Darkua Dodoo.[2]
She attend Mfantsiman Girls’ Secondary School wey dey Saltpond for ein O’ Level for 1963 insyd den Aburi Girls' Secondary School from 1967 go 1969.[2] She do ein law studies for University of Ghana wey she get ein LLB for 1974 insyd. She then proceed go de Ghana School of Law insyd Accra.[3]
Ein Professional Career
[edit | edit source]Prior to make she join de bench insyd 1981, Akoto-Bamfo work for de Attorney-General ein Office as a National Service personnel.[2] She later join British Indian Insurance Company insyd Accra, den de now defunct Zenith Assurance as Manager in charge of claims from 1976 to 1981.[2] For der, na she be responsible for settling insurance claims. She cam turn a District Magistrate insyd 1981.[2] As a magistrate, na dem first station am for de New Town Magistrate Court for ein first two years.[2] Na dem later transfer am to Cocoa Affairs wer she work as one of de first Magistrates der.[2] Na dem later appoint am a Circuit Court judge for Tema for a brief while before she return go Cocoa Affairs insyd 1986.[2] She remain for Cocoa Affairs from then til 1991 wen na dem promote am to de High Court bench.[4] After she serve as a justice of de High Court for three years, na dem transfer am to the Gambia on secondment for two years as Chairperson of de Assets Commission.[2] Na dem appoint am an Appeal Court Judge insyd 1999 wey na she continue for dis position insyd til ein nomination den appointment to de Supreme Court of Ghana by John Evans Atta Mills, Presido of Ghana insyd 2009.[3] She retire insyd February 2019.[4] Na dem appoint am togeda plus Nasiru Sulemana Gbadegbe den Benjamin Teiko Aryeetey (he now retire).[2] She join Justices Stephen Alan Brobbey, Georgina Theodora Wood (then Chief Justice) den Samuel K. Date-Bah, wey dem all retire.[2]

[edit | edit source]Na Vida Akoto-Bamfo marry de late Eugene Akoto-Bamfo Snr., a Legal Officer.[2] Na she identify as a Methodist buh she dey fellowship for de Police Church.[2]
