Sunyani (/sʌˈŋjəˈeɪ/ ⓘ) be a city den de capital of de Sunyani Municipal District den de Bono Region of Ghana. De city dey locate about 105 miles (169 km) southwest of Kumasi den 300 miles (480 km) away from Accra. Ebe de sixth largest city insyd de country as of de 2010 census, plus a population of 75,366 people. Ethnic groups such as de Akan, Northerner, Ewe, den Ga-Adangbe reside insyd de city along plus odas. As of 2024, de current mayor of de municipality be Hon. Ansu Kumi.
Etymology
[edit | edit source]Sunyani be a corrupted form of de Akan word Sonnwae.[1] Sunyani dey cam from de Akan word Osono, wich dey mean "elephant".[2]
History
[edit | edit source]Historically, na Sunyani be a popular camping ground give elephant hunters during de late 19th century. Insyd 1924, de British set up a district headquarters insyd de city den plus de construction of a road between am den Kumasi. Sunyani cam turn an economic hub.[3]

[edit | edit source]Sunyani dey locate for 07°20′N 02°20′W / 7.333°N 2.333°W (7.333333, -2.333333), approximately 105 miles (169 km) southwest of Kumasi den 300 miles (480 km) away from Accra.[4] De city get an average elevation of 308 metres (1,010 ft).[5]

De municipality dey border de Sunyani West District from de north, de Dormaa East District towards de west, de Asutifi North District from de south den de Tano North District towards de southeast.[6]
