University of Cross River State dem sanso know am as UNICROSS be state-owned tertiary institution plus four campuses wey spread across four Local Government Areas of de state.[1] Na de varsity be formerly known as de Cross River University of Technology (CRUTECH). Dem rename am insyd February of 2021 by bill pass for Cross River State House of Assembly wey na then dem approve by de former Governor of de State, Benedict Ayade. Ba de change of de tertiary institution ein name be make e enable de varsity function as conventional varsity, wey dey provide de opportunity make dem offer more professional courses rather dey focus for tech-related courses top. De present Vice Chancellor of de institution be Prof Augustine Angba.[2]
De varsity take back de indigenous name of de state wey na dem hold by de University of Cross River State, Uyo now de University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria til 1st October 1991 wen de Federal government of Nigeria establish de University of Uyo as Federal University after de separation of de Akwa Ibom Region from Cross River State insyd 1987. De University of Uyo inherit students, staff, academic programmes den de entire facilities of de then University of Cross River State establish by Cross River State insyd 1983.[3]
De Office of de Vice-Chancellor, Deputy Vice-Chancellor den de Bursar all dey locate insyd de Calabar Campus, consider de main campus of de Institution, wich dey locate insyd Calabar South Local Government Area of Cross River State insyd Southern Nigeria.[4] Dem establish de varsity insyd 2002 by de then Governor Donald Duke by merging three higher institutions: De Polytechnic of Calabar, De College of Education, den Ibrahim Babangida College of Agriculture.[5] E dey offer degree courses for undergraduate den post graduate levels.[6] De varsity currently ge campuses insyd Calabar, Obubra, Ogoja den Okuku.[7]
