For 1 October 1991, de Federal government of Nigeria establish am as Federal University wey na dem change de name to de University of Uyo. De varsity inherit students, staff, academic programmes den de entire facilities of de erstwhile University of Cross River State establish by Cross River State insyd 1983. E for be place for record to say what be today de University of Uyo pass thru several metamorphosis. E grow from Teacher's College (TC) to Advanced Teacher's College (ATC), College of Education (COE), wey e cam turn affiliate of de University of Port Harcourt make e run degree programmes for State University, University of Cross River (UNICROSS), wey then to ein present status insyd 1991.

Academic activities commence during de 1991/92 academic session. De University of Uyo get 13 faculties, de postgraduate school den de school of Continuing Education.[2]

Professor Enefiok Essien be de immediate past Vice-Chancellor.[3] Insyd 2015 dem appoint de Emir of Hadejia, Adamu Maje Chancellor.[4]

Professor Nyaudoh Ukpabio Ndaeyo emerge as de 8th substantive Vice Chancellor of de University of Uyo insyd 2020.[5]

De varsity dey insyd de heart of Uyo, de capital of Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria ein second-largest oil-producing state. Uyo be easily accessible by road, although der be international airport for external use(s). Edey operate from four campuses:

  • De Permanent Site/Main Campus wey dey accommodate Parts of Central Administration, Faculties of Engineering den Natural den Applied Sciences, Faculty of Agriculture, International Centre for Energy den Environmental Sustainability Research (ICEESR), den de Postgraduate School.
  • De Town Campus wey dey accommodate Faculties of Arts, Education, Social Sciences, Pharmacy.
  • De Annex Campus, home for de Business Administration, Law, Environmental Studies den General Studies.

De Library get active collection of 46,745 volumes den dey handle about 409,977 lending den reference inquiries annually. Current journals stand for 271 wey dey represent all disciplinary interests. Der be four main divisions: Acquisition, Lending, Processing, den Research. De Research Division dey comprise Reference, Serials, Special Collections den Government Collections. De Special Collection dey comprise Nyong Essien, Africana den Government Collection. Acquisition den Processing dey select den dey order library materials den dey organize dem for effective use. De Public Service Division dey deal directly plus readers, dey regulate de use of library materials, den dey handle reference questions.
