History

Na dem initially establish de university insyd 2001,[1] buh dem temporarily cease operations. Insyd April 2007, e reopen under de name Islamic Online University plus greater offering of completely free short courses.[1] For January 13, 2020, dem announce say dem change de institution ein name to de International Open University.[2]

Ernest Bai Koroma, de chancellor of de University of Sierra Leone (USL) welcome de idea of make dem establish de IOU type Islamic institution.[3] Insyd 2014, de Niger State Government bia de International Open University ein Bachelor of Arts school fees give 35 students wey register from de state.[1]

As of 2018, de International Open University be amongst de most ethnically diverse universities insyd de world.[4]

Insys 2018, na dem rank de International Open University ein programs among de six best online Middle Eastern Studies programs by Successful Student,[5] although by June 2020 dem komot dem from dis list.[6]

Insyd 2021, de online Kenyan newspaper Tuko rank de International Open University among de top accredited distance learning universities insys Africa, along plus de University of Johannesburg, de University of Zambia, de University of South Africa, de University of Nairobi den de University of Pretoria, for addition to few oda universities.[7]
