Joachim Awuley Lartey (born 6 June 1927 – 27 April 2024) wey dem sanso dey bell am 'Over to you' Joe Lartey, be Ghanaian commentator wey he retire den san be journalist. Den times na he dey job for Ghana Broadcasting Corporation from 1961 to 1973, he san job plus Federal Radio Corporation for Nigeria between 1978 den 1990. Dem rank am for de top five African commentators for football insyd by Goal, international association football website.[1] Na he be de first presido of de Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG).[2]

Den born Lartey for 6 June 1927 for Lutterodt Street for Accra wey Emmanuel Akushey Lartey den Madam Emma Araakua Lartey be ein parents. Ein puppie job for Treasury Department.[3]

Lartey start ein education for Accra Royal School around 1933. Not long after, dem transfer ein puppie go Cape Coast wey he go plus am. Howeva, before he go fi find anoda school, ein puppie cam sick wey dem take am cam back to Accra.[3]

For 1935 insyd, dem transfer ein puppie go Tamale. He decide say he per go go secof de distance. Journey go Tamale from Accra for dat tym dey last for three days. Dem lef Lartey, ein kiddie bro den ein mummie behind. Few months later, ein kiddie bro fall sick wey he neva recover til he die. Ein puppie for cam take he den ein mummie. For Tamale, Lartey enrol for de Tamale Middle Boarding School but ein puppie seek permission for am so say he go be day student, since he dey fall sick often.[3]

For 1938 ein puppie return Accra wey dem send Lartey go Government Senior Boys School for Kinbu so say he go continue ein education. He plete middle school for 1943 wey dem admit am for Accra Academy for 1944 insyd. He follow events of de Second World War as he dey listen to British Prime Minister Sir Winston Churchill ein war speeches, for radio top, wey he san so dey read magazines.[3]

After less dan year for Accra Academy, he lef hose for Takoradi make he join de British Navy. Dem send am go Free Town, Sierra Leone make he train further. For 1945 insyd de war end wey dem demobilise ein group for 1946 insyd.[3]

Lartey first get job as clerk for de Accra Town Council, he dey job under de Town Clerk Major McDougel. He pursue course for ein own plus Wolsey Hall so say he go prepare for Cambridge Certificate (O’Level).[3]

Today, Lartey teach presentation for de Accra Film School.[3][4]

Lartey die for April 26, 2024, at de age of 96.[10]
