Mavis Hawa Koomson (born 3 February 1966) be a Ghanaian politician den educationist wey serve as a Member of de sixth, seventh den eighth Parliaments of de fourth republic of Ghana wey dey represent de Awutu Senya East Constituency insyd de Central region on de ticket of de New Patriotic party (NPP).[1][2][3][4] She be appointed by President of Ghana Nana Akuffo-Addo on 10 January 2017 as Minister of Special Development Initiatives.[5][6][7] Mavis Hawa Koomson dey advocate for women's empowerment, education, den healthcare. She sanso be involved insyd initiatives to promote fisheries den aquaculture development insyd Ghana.

Early life den education

Koomson dey hail from Salaga insyd de Savannah Region of Ghana wey na dem born am on 3 February 1966.[8] She get ein training college education at de Bimbilla Training College.[9] She dey hold a diploma den a bachelor's degree insyd Basic Education from de University Education Winneba.[10] She earn a master's degree, postgraduate diploma insyd public administration (CPA) den postgraduate diploma insyd public administration (DPA) from Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA).[11][12]

Career

Koomson be a teacher by profession, wey dey occupy various positions wey dey include head teacher, assistant superintendent den Principal superintendent.[13] She sanso be president of Gender Unit of de Ghana National Association of Teachers Ladies Association (GNATLAS) Sekondi local, treasurer for GNATLAS (Western Region) den secretary for GNATLAS (Takoradi local).[5]

Koomson be member for New Patriotic Party. She be former MP for Awutu Senya East Constituency insyd Central Region for Ghana.[14]

Insyd May 2017, President Nana Akufo-Addo name Mavis Hawa Koomson as part of nineteen ministers wey go form ein cabinet.[15] Na dem submit de names of dat 19 ministers to de Parliament of Ghana wey de Speaker of de House, Rt. 2024 Elections

Insyd de 2024 Ghanaian general elections, Hawa Koomson loose to de NDC Parliamentary Candidate for de Awutu Senya East Constituency, Phyllis Naa Koryoo Okunor wey secure 50,886 votes, wey dey represent 52.7%, while Hawa Koomson, garner 45,638 votes, wey dey represent 47.3%.[19]

Insyd July 2020, Hawa Koomson breach security laws wey she fire gunshots into a crowd of citizens wey insyd de process of registering for de controversial voters ID card.[20][21] Dis incident occur insyd Kasoa. De Minister claim dem inform am of foreigners wey cam from different towns to register insyd ein constituency. She regard dis as a threat to ein party ein victory insyd de upcoming elections. De Minister claim say de act be in self-defense secof she feel threatened. She respond to de invitation of de CID of de police insyd de Central region.[7] Dem retrieve ein gun by de Central Regional police. Dem sanso retrieve de license wey dey cover de weapon wen she report to de police insyd Cape Coast.[22]

She introduce an annual soccer competition dem dub de Kasoa MP's Cup among de youth insyd ein constituency.[25]
