De University of Health den Allied Sciences (UHAS) be public university wey dey Ho for Volta region of Ghana. UHAS be one of de young universities for Ghana insyd. Dem start dey operate am for September 2012, as dem admit 154 students wey be de first batch.[1]

Dema History

De university start by sam Act of Parliament (Act 828),[2] wey receive presidential approval for December 2011 insyd. However, e start dey admit students for 2012. De university be devoted to teaching, research, den service for Health Sciences insyd.[3][4][5]

Dem form de university plus Interim University Council wey dey govern de affairs of de school, wey Prof. Kofi Anyidoho, MA (Bloomington), PhD (Austin) dey chair am. De Foundation Vice-Chancellor be Professor Fred Newton Binka, MBChB (Legon), MPH (Jerusalem), PhD (Basel) wey serve from March 2012 go July 2016. For August 2017 insyd, dem inaugurate new council plus Justice Jones Victor Mawulorm Dotse as de chairmo. Oda members of de council be Professor John Owusu Gyapong (Vice-Chancellor, UHAS); Professor Victor Gadzekpo (Member), Dr. Sylvia Ayeley Deganus (Member), Dr. Nana Owusu-Afari (Member), Mr. Richard K. Adjei (Member), Dr. Mark Amexo (Member), Dr. Emmanuel Newman (NCTE), Mr. Courage Meteku (Representative of CHASS), Professor Harry Kwami Tagbor (Representative of Convocation-professorial), Ms. Yaa Amankwaa Opuni (Representative of Convocation-professorial), Mr. Kwesi Aseredum Hagan (Representative of FUSSAG), Mr. Joshua Gadasu (Representative of TEWU), Dr. Francis Zotor (Representative of UTAG), Mr. Derrick Asare (Representative of SRC).[2]

Professor Lydia Aziato[8] be de current Vice-Chancellor of de University of Health and Allied Sciences.[9] For sam special meeting dem do for June 3, 2022 insyd, de Governing Council of de University of Health and Allied Sciences[10] approve de appointment of Prof. Aziato as de new Vice-Chancellor.[11] Effective August 1, 2022, Prof. Aziato assume de prestigious position,[12] wey she cam turn de first woman den nurse wey hold de role of Vice-Chancellor for de history of de University insyd.[13]

De university get Research Ethics Committee REC wey get oversight responsibilities of say dem go review den approve all research wey dem plan say dem go conduct for de university ein facilities insyd den/anaa involve de staff anaa students of de university. De goal of de REC be say ego protect de rights den welfare of human participants for research studies insyd.[18]

De REC be made of seven (7) Scientists/Academics den 8 Non-scientists; wey edey include A lawyer, Journalist, Religious Body wey dey represent de larger Community, Sociologist, Educationist, Traditional leader, Public Health Expert den Medical Doctor[18]

UHAS achieve de highest ranking among Ghanaian universities for Times Higher Education Impact Rankings for de SDG-3 category, wey e recognize demma outstanding efforts for promoting good health den well-being for 2022 insyd.[20]
