Education
[edit | edit source]A good human resource dey insyd de people wey dey Wenchi Municipal as edey depends greatly for demma level of education. Education bi de most treasured legacy for de residents for dis municipal insyd den esan bi de only means through which development go fi go on.
Generally, physical accessibility to basic schools bi commendable for de Municpal insyd. Dis bi especially so for de primary level where virtually every community gey ein own Kindergarten (KG) den a primary school. Insyd 2009, dey gey seventy public primary schools den twenty-two private primary schools for de municipality insyd. Children from communities wey no gey primary schools no fi galley pass 3km so say dem go gey access to education. De number of junior high schools (JHS) however no bi equal plus de number of primary schools for de municipality. Insyd 2010, dere gey forty public junior high schools den ten private junior high schools for dere. Dis partly go fi contribute to de high drop-out rate wey dey happen for JHS level as pupils for galley longer distances before dem fi gey access education. For instance, JHS pupils from Akete den Nyinamponaase galley a distance of 7 km everyday so say dem go attend JHS for Wenchi den Tromeso respectively insyd 2009.
Insyd 2010, de municipality gey two well established senior high schools: Wenchi Senior High School den Koase Senior High School. De municipality bi recognize say dem dey need to improve demma access to secondary education den start another senior high school for Nchiraa insyd 2010.
Insyd 2010, basic school enrollment for de municipality go appreciable as we dey consider say over 90% of demma kiddies wey catch school going age actually dey school insyd. De total enrolment during de 2009/2010 academic year stood at 25,751 of which 51.9% bi males wey 48.1% bi females. Gender Parity Index (GPI) for education gey improved tremendously over de years. De GPI wey na edey 0.89 for 2007 increase go to 0.92 for 2008 insyd den 0.93 for 2009 insyd. De implication bi dat increasing numbers for females bi being given dem access to education. Factors contributing to dis wey include de introduction of de capitation grant, de School Feeding Programme den other such social interventions.
Enrolment for schools dey increase since 2010 insyd. Dis could be de indication for improving human resource development for de municipal insyd.
Health care
[edit | edit source]De main emphasis for de municipal development plan bi de improved public health, den many improvements have been made for nutrition den for maternal den child care. Many of de endemic diseases, such as malaria, pneumonia, den diseases for de gastroenteritis group, has been eliminated.
Insyd 2010, dere gey eight (8) health facilities wey dey provide health care for demma inhabitants for de Municipality. Out of de eight, five bi public or government health facilities wey de other three bi privately owned. Dese health facilities dey mostly referred demma cases give de Sunyani Regional Hospital. Insyd 2010, de problem plus health facilities for de Municipality bi dat only two hospitals for de municipality wey ebi privately owned den dis made dem cost of health delivery become very high. Dem san gey problem for spatial disparity for demma distribution or location of facilities.
Dem gey a total of two hundred den ninety-eight health professionals manning dese health facilities as of 2010. As of 2010 dem gey:
- Six medical doctors
- Four medical assistants
- Sixty-six nurses and midwives and
- Twenty-nine support staffs working in the municipality.
De Methodist hospital bi demma highest employer, wey edey employ about 183 professionals. Insyd 2010, staffing level for de population to doctor ratio stood for 1:11,330, wey ebi an improvement as we dey compared to de 2007 ratio wey ebi 1:16,176. Insyd 2010, de municipality san gey a population to nurse ratio of 1:1545. Even though de municipality gey record say some significant increase for de number of health professionals insyd de past two years since 2008, de numbers insyd 2010, bi still not enough considering dat de hospitals for de municipality serve as demma referral point for health facilities for de Tain District.
