Nii Amon Kotei (24 May 1915 – 17 October 2011) na he be Ghanaian sculptor, painter, musician, surveyor, den graphic artist. Dem remember den celebrate am as de designer of de coat of arms of Ghana.[1] He be one of Ghana ein leading artists.[2][3]

Na dem award Kotei a scholarship at Achimota School wey he later receive a scholarship make he study art at de London School of Printing and Graphic Art from 1949 to 1952. During World War II, he serve insyd de Royal West African Frontier Force wey he work insyd de Cartographic Division of de Army wey he dey draw maps den plans give soldiers for de front lines.[4]

Notable contributions

Na ein most notable contribution be de creation of Ghana ein national coat of arms for 4 March 1957. Na dem commission Kotei by de British colonial government make e replace de older badge wich depict an Elephant den a Palm tree; two symbols dem use thru out British West African colonies. After ein initial design, under de government ein instruction, na dem send de coat of arms to de Queen ein College of Heraldry for approval.[5]

De Ghanaian coat of arms, dem find for all government official letter heads top, dey compose of a shield, divided into four quarters by a green St. George's Cross, dem rim plus gold.

Death

Kotei die for 17 October 2011. Dey follow ein passing, na de Ghanaian parliament recognize ein contribution to Ghanaian art and heraldry.[6][7]

Awards
