Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) be university for Ghana.[1] De Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology be public university wey dem establish for de country be, wey e sa be de largest university for Kumasi Metropolis be den for Ashanti region insyd.[2] KNUST get ein roots for Agyeman Prempeh I, Asantehene, ein plans insyd so say dem go establish a university for Kumasi insyd as part of ein drive towards modernization of ein Ashanti Kingdom.[3] Dis plan neva come to pass sake of de clash between de British empire dema expansion den King Prempeh I ein desire to preserve ein Ashanti kingdom dema independence.[3]

However, ein kiddie bro den successor, King Asantehene Agyeman Prempeh II, as he tap de Golden Stool top for 1935 insyd, wey he continue plus de vision.[3] Events wey happen for de 1940s for Gold Coast insyd play for ein hands insyd. First na dem establish de University College of the Gold Coast.[4] Secondly, na de 1948 Accra riots den de other Watson Commission report wey dem recommend dat make dem establish university of sciences for Kumasi insyd.[5] Thus. for 1949 insyd, Prempeh ein dream nu come turn reality wey dem start dey build what na dem dey bell Kumasi College of Technology.[6]

De Kumasi College of Technology offer admission to ein first students to de engineering faculty for 1951 insyd (dem enter for 1952 insyd), den de Act of Parliament give de university ein legal basis as de Kumasi College of Technology for 1952 insyd.[7] Dem form de college ein nucleus from 200 teacher training students wey dem transfer from Achimota College for Greater Accra region insyd. Dem affiliate de college to de University of London. For 1961 insyd, dem grant de college full university status.[8]

De university dey cover total land area of 2512.96 acres.[9] De main campus wey be about seven square miles for de area insyd, e be about eight miles (13 km) to de east of Kumasi, Ashanti Regional ein capital.

For November 2019 insyd, dem rank KNUST as de best university for Ghana den West Africa insyd by U.S. News & World Report.[10] Dem sa rank am 14th for Africa insyd den 706th for de world insyd, plus e get global score of 42.4.[11] For November 2020 insyd, dem rank am de best for de second time by U.S. News & World Report. Dis time e climb 2 positions so e be 12th best for Africa insyd.[12][13]

De latest Times Higher Education impact ranking for 2022 insyd adjudged KNUST as de best university for quality education insyd for Africa den 14th globally.[14][15]
