De Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) be multi-campus varsity wey dey offer courses at certificate, diploma, undergraduate den postgraduate levels. De main campus of de varsity dey Mbale, about 222 kilometres (138 mi) north-east of Kampala, Uganda ein capital den largest city.[1]
History
[edit | edit source]Dem conceive de idea make dem start IUIU at de second summit of de Organisation of de Islamic Conference insyd 1974. Na dem inaugurate de varsity insyd February 1988 plus 80 students. De main objective of de varsity be make e serve de higher education needs of de English-speaking Muslim community insyd Southern den Eastern Africa. De varsity sanso dey enroll non-Muslim students, wey be free make dem practice dema different religions.[2]
University campuses
[edit | edit source]As of December 2014, IUIU get four campuses:[3]
- De Main Campus be approximately 2 kilometres (1 mi) north of Mbale ein central business district insyd de Eastern Region of Uganda, for de Mbale-Soroti road top. De coordinates of de main campus be 1°06'02.0"N, 34°10'25.0"E (Latitude:1.100556; Longitude:34.173611).[4]
- De Kampala Campus be for Kibuli Hill top, approximately 3.5 kilometres (2 mi) south-east of de central business district of Kampala, de capital den largest city of Uganda.
- De Kabojja Campus dey insyd Kabojja, 8 kilometres (5 mi) west of Kampala ein central business district. Dis campus be for female students per.[5]
- De Arua Campus dey insyd de town of Arua, approximately 400 kilometres (250 mi) north-west of Kampala.[6]

[edit | edit source]Islamic University in Uganda, affectionately dem dey bell am IUIU boasts, get students from across de African continent. De first West African student make dem admit am to de varsity be Mr. Abdul Ishaq Hussein wey komot Ghana between 1989 den 1990. Later Mr. Ahmed Gedel follow am, sanso komot Ghana den four oda Nigerians wey dey include Imam Rufai, Ismail, Dr. Uba Inuwa den Dr. Taufik.
Na chaw oda West African students from Mali, The Gambia, famous of whom be Alieu K. Jammeh, wey na he serve as Minister of Sports under Yahya Jammeh. He currently be Gambia ein High Commissioner to Guinea.
Der be students from Malawi, Kenya, Tanzania, Somalia, South Africa, Djibouti den Eritrea as of July 1998.
University halls
[edit | edit source]Currently, de varsity get four very competitive halls of residence.
Umar-Khadija, de oldest, sanso be arguably de most successful hall of residence for sports activities insyd. Two West African students wey dem be privilege make dem serve for high positions of de hall insyd. Dem be Abdul Razak Abdul Hamid Musah, chairmo den Anas Abubakar as de general secretary for 1998 insyd. Dema rise to dese positions be mainly secof dem be among three of de best table tennis players de varsity ever produce. Na de third player be Dr. Asiso Suraqa. Na he probably be de best table tennis player for campus top. Howeva, na de first West African Chairman of hall of residence of de varsity be Nurudeen Abdul Hamid of Ali- Hafswa Hall. De oda halls be Uth-Fat Hall den Abu-Aisha Hall.
